May 6th

Today we remember the virtue of humility
and the flower of the day is the Violet.

I love this painting :-)

May 5th

Today's virtue is Simplicity
and the flower is the humble yet lovely Marguerite daisy.

And this seemed like a nice picture
of the Mother of God and some daisies.

I'm still looking for icons depicting flowers
and not just adorned with flowers!

May 4th

Today's virtue is keeping one's thoughts on Heaven
and the flower is the Pansy

May 3rd

On May 3rd, the virtue of the day is Thanksgiving;
the flower is Myosotis, the beautiful Forget-Me-Not.

Tradition says this is the only flower that
ever bloomed on Calvary after the Crucifixion.

A New Princess

Today saw the birth of a new Royal Princess!
HRH the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a daughter this morning
and left the hospital ten hours later.

I'm posting some press/TV photos to mark the occasion.

The official announcement being posted at Buckingham Palace

Even the iconic BT Tower made the announcement!

A slightly bewildered little Prince George on the steps of the hospital
as he goes to meet his new sister.

Who can blame him when his is what he was facing!
The world's press and their cameras...

He managed several waves, bless him.

And a short while later, he was privately taken home
so he avoided the media circus
that erupted as his parents took his sister back to Kensington Palace

And the Princess in her car seat before her father drove her home <3 p="">

God grant her Many, Many Years!!

May 2nd

The virtue assigned for this day is the love of God,
and the flower is a rose...

May Devotions

Many Anglican and Catholic churches in Britain as well as the rest of the world hold special devotions in honour of the Mother of God during the month of May.

I still have not been able to get a Mary Garden planted, but I thought it would be nice to do a series on the traditional flowers associated with Our Lady in May.

This is for the first of May:

It is of course the Lily, often associated with the Mother of God and regarded as a symbol of purity. The first of May is for Catholics, the Feast of St Joseph, "the spouse most chaste", who is also often associated with lilies for the same reason.
